Tournament Report – Three Games, One Bayside Spirit

It’s hard to do justice to three matches in one report, but much like our lads giving their all on the pitch, we’ll give it a solid go!

The day didn’t quite go to plan, with three unexpected injuries to some of our “fittest” players — Morley, Jim, and John — reminding us all that rugby has a way of humbling even the most prepared. Still, spirits remained high, and the squad pulled together admirably.

Game One saw us grind out a strong win thanks to two determined solo efforts from Lance, whose “I’ll just get it done” attitude carried the team over the line. Our opponents, the Evergreens, put up bursts of resistance, but our pressure and persistence proved too much. Despite a few adventurous passes that kept everyone on their toes, we finished confidently and with smiles all around.

In Game Two, we faced a sharp, younger side whose pace tested us through the middle. The highlight came from a beautifully timed pass from Bobbins that sent Lance slicing through for another try — the kind of teamwork that deserves to be remembered. Though we couldn’t quite close the gap on the scoreboard, the effort and heart were undeniable. Unfortunately, Morley was sidelined mid-game with a back issue, trimming our bench further.

By the final match, we were running low on subs but not on enthusiasm. The opposition had fresh legs and a deep squad, yet our group battled hard and even crossed the line through Rupert, who showed great determination to finish off a move that started deep in our own half. Despite our push for a late comeback, the other side held firm, and we wrapped up the day with plenty of pride — and a few good laughs about what might have been.

Across all three matches, there were bright moments everywhere: a few perfect kick-offs, some great lineout steals from Jeff and Joe, and not a single scrum lost all day. That’s something any Bayside side can be proud of. A huge thank you to everyone who played, cheered, or helped organize. Win or lose, it’s days like these that remind us why we love rugby — teamwork, laughter, and a community that keeps showing up for each other.
